This Sophia Electric amplifier was named after the famous Western Electric 91 amplifier. The original WE 91 amplifier used the WE310 driver tube which is not only extremely expensive but also hard to find today for any meaningful quantity production. Sophia Electric’s designers chose a different driver tube to produce similar sonic characteristics for which the WE 91 is famous for.

This is Sophia Electric’s effort to recreate a legendary vintage design and sound, infused with Sophia Electric's unique character. It features different driver tubes, transformers, and a higher B+ voltage to achieve sonic performance and testing specifications that offer a wider bandwidth and a quieter S/N ratio, making it better suited for today’s hi-fi requirements.

The stock tubes are two Grade A Classic II 300Bs, two NOS Chinese 6SN7s, and two NOS 5Z3PAs

Designed by Dr. DWU and Richard Wugang, father and son, hand-made in Virginia, USA.

Circuit: Single ended 300B amplifier without feedback.

Transformers: Sophia Electric 91-01 OPTs designed by Dr. DWU, made in-house by Sophia Electric.
