We managed to get Shuguang to make a special summer 2009 Production for us and are able to test and pick up the best tubes from the production.

This metal plate design of 845 tube draws slightly less current than the RCA 845, 845B and original 845A. It has more dynamics range (more micro dynamics as well). This metal plate 845 tube has sonic magic.

This metal plate tube was initially a Philips 845 replica. After two years of redesigning, it has become more and more like RCA 845 metal plate replica. What does it sound like? It is as great as RCA 845 or WE metal plate, at 1/4 of the cost.

Note: Tubes are hand made crafts. Testing (if there is one) numbers at factory are all over the map. It is vendors’ QC procedure makes the differences.

Note: Shuguang is a Chinese State company. It had produced tubes without cost consideration in the old days. Some US vendors were selling plain 845 tubes at $30 each before 2006. But since then, the export price has skyrocketed. Say no? Shuguang has not made any 845B and 845 metal plate tubes for almost two years and even plain 845 tubes has more than tripled its price since. 845 tube amp users should stock some extra tubes, future pricing is uncertain (moving up is certain, staying the same is uncertain).
